Today is all about being thankful, spending time with family, eating turkey, and football. Another area where food and football combine is with the school-based program Fuel Up to Play 60.
Fuel Up to Play 60 was launched by the National Dairy Council and NFL, partnering with the USDA, to teach students how to live healthier lives. The program is run through schools focusing on nutrition and physical activity. The NFL portion of the program encourages children to exercise for at least 60 minutes a day through play and physical activity. The National Dairy Council and the USDA focus on educating students with healthy eating habits by eating dairy products, fresh fruits and veggies, and whole grains.
The program focuses mainly on teaching children but also takes the opportunity to educate teachers, parents, and communities on how to lead a healthier lifestyle. The free program offers to fund schools for running their own programs from the Fuel Up to Play 60 playbook. The playbook is a guide offering activity suggestions for schools to run that are geared towards the main principles of an active lifestyle.
