Patz Delivers ‘Above Par’ Performance in Boca Raton!

In the heart of Boca Raton, Florida, Broken Sound Club provides its 3,200 members with resort-style living in a residential club community. Composed of twenty-seven private villages and 1,600 homes, the 1,000-acre property is complete with two golf courses, stadium tennis courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center, spas, and fine dining.

The 5-star Platinum Club of America is always trying to reduce it’s carbon footprint. They had previously been landfilling their green waste, which had disposal fees of up to $70,000 per year. After consulting with their local Patz Dealer, Broken Sound Club installed an effective composting system comprised of a 140 cubic foot Patz 400 Series Stationary Vertical Compost Mixer, Patz conveyors, a stationary in-vessel composter, and a shredder.

The shredder begins the composting process by chopping materials into 1/4″ particles. Patz conveyors transport the chopped particles to temporary storage. The particles are then loaded into the Patz Vertical Mixer, where they are weighed and blended to initiate natural microbial activity. This shortens the composting time needed to kill pathogens.

Broken Sound Club saw results in just 7 days after application – their golf course turf became visibly greener and more dense, which improved the course playability and appearance. The club estimates that 7-9 cubic yards of cured compost will be produced daily. The material will be applied to the fairways and roughs on both courses, allowing for a 30% reduction in fertilizer usage. The club also benefits from the reduced waste disposal fees. Broken Sound Club expects to regain it’s initial investment in the composting system in less than 5 years.
