Job Summary
In accordance with directives, policies and controls, plan, direct, manage and coordinate Engineering Department functions. Is responsible, authorized and accountable to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in design and development of products.
Essential Duties
- Provide oversight and guidance of staff to meet scheduled deadlines for projects assigned and to maximize quality and productivity of work and services through training, development of procedures, meetings and individual educational development.
- Actively engage, communicate and coordinate activities between Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, Technical Support, Finance and Corporate Officers on matters concerning Engineering.
- Maintain sound engineering concepts and standards in the design and development of products.
- Manage patent activities.
- Utilize information gained from Technical Support for product improvements to eliminate and correct deficiencies which cause customer complaints.
- Responsible for the coordination and review of new products by the Safety Committee of which the Engineering Manager is chairman.
- Plan and determine manpower requirements consistent with company goals.
- Manage and coordinate functional administration programs, e.g., wage and salary administration, Employee Performance Appraisals.
- Keep abreast of new developments germane to the company’s engineering responsibilities to keep these activities current with producing the highest level of quality and productivity.
Education Requirements
- College graduate with degree in engineering, with courses in Business Administration, Advanced Mathematics, Electronic Data Processing, etc., beneficial.
- Five or more years’ broad engineering experience required to include research and development, laboratory, engineering services, administrative and managerial positions to acquire sufficient knowledge and background to assume responsibilities involved.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.
- General business experience and aptitude
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Travel Required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work with people and be a team player.
Physical Demands
- In an 8-hour day the employee must stand/walk 1-4 hours and sit 6-8 hours.
- Must frequently use hand(s) for repetitive movement single grasping, and occasionally pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
- Must occasionally bend, twist, squat, climb, and reach.
- Must perform Light work, lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
