Job Summary

Working in accordance with verbal and written instructions from the Welding Supervisor, perform a variety of duties.

Essential Duties

  • Direct and coordinate the activities in the Welding area.
  • Ensure that all work is being run according to the priorities established by the Materials Management Department and ensure that all work is being performed safely according to company and departmental rules.
  • Investigate production related problems and interact with the appropriate departments to resolve these problems.
  • Answer questions and make decisions as they relate to product quality.
  • Perform data collection/attendance functions in the event of the supervisor’s absence.
  • Notify the Maintenance Department of machine breakdowns and issue a work order for needed repairs.
  • Enter rejects for nonconforming product and expedite the disposition of the rejected parts.
  • Ensure that all employees in the department are following safety policies at all times.
  • Make sure no unauthorized people are in the department.
  • Know how to react to emergencies such as fire, accident or severe weather.
  • Fill out injury reports as required and ensure that minor first aid is given as needed.
  • Train new employees in the department operations as they relate to safety, data collection and paperwork procedures.
  • Communicate through written and verbal means, the status of the department to the next shift.

Education Requirements

  • High school or vocational graduate with experience in supervising or overseeing groups of people. Knowledge in welding a plus but not required. Good verbal communication skills are essential.

Physical Demands

  • In an 8-hour day the employee must stand/walk 6-8 hours and sit 1-4 hours.
  • Must frequently bend, twist, and reach and occasionally squat.
  • Must perform Light Heavy Work, lifting 75 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Typical Working Conditions

Located in a factory setting with a large amount of noise and distractions.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times in all manufacturing areas

  • Safety glasses with side shields.
  • Steel toe shoes.
  • Hearing protection.
  • Long work pants.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for occasional activities for this job description:

  • Hard hat (where overhead hazards exist).
  • Welding helmet (welding activities).
  • Protective gloves (when welding & material handling).
  • Shaded lens goggles or glasses (torching operations).
  • Safety goggles or face shield (abrasive disk grinder use).
